Pain

I have mentioned to so many of you about Lorrimer Moseley's TED talk about pain biology. Pain is complex. It doesn't just rely on information from the outside world it relies on your nervous system processing the information correctly. There are so many ways that process can go wrong. Being generally well and healthy and being resilient psychological matter. Your understanding of the problem, ability to heal, or sensitivity to what's going on in the tissues influence pain. I often say to patients we believe so much in pain messages being accurate but it really often is not. Pain messages can be wrong, they can be heightened to the smallest injury or it can be absent for something that needs your attention.

So to treat your pain physiotherapy looks at your lifestyle, sleep, or how you pace movement and activity to stabilise neural sensitivity. We look at how healthy your tissues are, that means on a simple level your diet and hydration does matter. On a larger level what other conditions you have and how well you take care of yourself makes a huge difference to your pain. Also your emotions how you cope and what you think, what tactics you have and what you've learnt in your life makes a difference too.

We do more than just magic you better with hands on techniques or other passive treatment. We also help you perform well in your life through giving you education and strategies to keep you healthy, emotionally calm, and tactically resilient to what ever life throws at you.

So if you wanted to learn more about general health book a physiotherapy screening assessment and we can look at your health needs. We aren't just here when you are in pain we are also here to prevent illness and keep you well in all areas of your life. A healthier you will help you get better quicker and you will be less likely to develop chronic or severe pain issues in the future. I am very happy to look at your general health and fitness. Physiotherapists are medically trained professionals we do so much more than see you when you're injured.
